Rural Policy Challenges: Redefining Rural America

This June 2004 forum, held in Olympia, WA, coincided with the release of the report, Listening to Learn: Stories from Rural Northwest Families (8MB) prepared by Washington Kids Count and Children First of Oregon. The forum featured keynote speaker, Chuck Fluharty, Director of the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) at the University of Missouri. Topics discussed: The growing divide between rural and urban America; The role of partnerships in asset building between rural and urban communities; and the need for community-specific specialized programs.
