Academic Achievement
Two of HSPC's major project lines address the issue of academic achievement.
The Educational Finance Policy Modeling Project focuses on estimating the costs of pre-kindergarten-to-12th-grade finance systems that support improved academic performance. This project has also included the development of a literature review database on educational strategies and performance in Pre-K through 12th grade.
Every year, Washington Kids Count's (WKC) primary publication - The State of Washington's Children - reports on a variety of achievement indicators across Washington State, including the percentages of 4th, 7th, and 10th graders meeting basic standards on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). WKC has also produced special reports on the relationship of academic achievement to social and behavioral variables and has analyzed rural/urban differences in academic achievement.
