Children at Risk

At-risk youth mapping project

In May of 2004, under the auspices of Washington Kids Count (WKC), HSPC created a profile of youth in Washington State. Using the Census Bureau's Integrated Public-Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) data, we reported on several different characteristics of children and families in Washington, and estimated the number of children age birth to 24 whose families could be identified as possessing one or more of six targeted risk factors, including: low maternal educational attainment, limited English proficiency, and parental underemployment.

Children at Risk: State Trends 1990-2000
This publication produced by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, looks at changes in 11 key measures of child well-being between 1990 and 2000. Changes are provided on a state-by-state basis, and national figures are presented with state figures to help readers quickly ascertain whether a state has improved more than average over the 1990s and which dimensions of children's lives have changed the most over the past decade.
